Updating and New Books
CPA Media's Andrew Forbes and David Henley have completed text and photography for the new Insight Guide to Thailand's Beaches and Islands. Andrew has also been busy with writing and research for two new Dorling Kindersley Eyewitness Travel Guides on Vietnam (almost completed) and Singapore and Malaysia (continuing).
CPA Media's Oliver Hargreave is finalising his forthcoming guidebook on Phuket and Phi Phi, which takes a close look at prime tourist destinations on Thailand's Andaman Coast. Like his Exploring Chiang Mai: City, Valley and Mountains (also published by Odyssey), the book presents history and gives useful information and recommendations supported by maps and colour photos throughout. It also provides a frank assessment of the impact of tourism, particularly where this appears to be inappropriate. Publication is expected in December 2006.
CPA Media's Ron Emmons has completed updating the latest edition of Rough Guide Cambodia as well as contributing to an update of Rough Guide Southeast Asia. He is now co-author of Rough Guide Vietnam and has recently completed updating the 2006 edition. He is also working on North Thailand for the 6th edition of Rough Guide Thailand. Ron has recently been travelling and researching in Eastern Malaysia (Sabah and Sarawak) for Dorling Kinderlsey.
CPA Media's Joe Cummings has completed a number of books including Chiang Mai Style (Marshall Cavendish, jointly with Luca Invernizzi Tettoni), and Lanna Renaissance (Asia Books, also with Luca Invernizzi Tettoni), as well as working on updates for Lonely Planet Sri Lanka and Lonely Planet Bangkok. On a more parochial level, he recently launched a biweekly newspaper for Pai in Northern Thailand, the Pai Post, together with several Thai and Western colleagues (www.paipost.com).
CPA Media's Ron Renard is now Project Manager of the UNODC Wa Project in a remote part of Myanmar's Shan State. He is also working with his wife, Dr Anchalee Singhanetra, on a study of Mon-Khmer peoples in the six Mekong countries (China, Burma, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam) under the Regional Centre for Sustainable Development and the Social Sciences (funded by the Rockefeller Foundation) at Chiang Mai University.
