We are a British-owned company based in the historic and lovely old walled city of Chiang Mai in the far north of Thailand, surrounded by forested mountains - a wonderful place to live and work.

CPA Media was founded in Hong Kong in 1993 as a News and Features Agency supplying articles on many aspects of Asian arts, culture, history, society and politics, but with a special interest in Thailand, Southeast Asia, China and parts of the Muslim World.

We also supply historical and contemporary images and have built up a stock library holding more than 120,000 Asia-related images, which continues to expand. In 2010 we began digitising this collection - a long and complex process, which is, however, very rewarding - and in 2011 we set up Pictures From History as the online image library of CPA Media.

Our decision to establish an online image library coincided with the continuing rise of e-publishing, and with thousands of fine images of Asia already on hand - many of them of a rare historical nature -  we decided to establish an online e-publishing business, Cognoscenti Books, specialising in Asian art, culture, history and travel.
